National Bike Week 2023
Bike Week is a celebration of active travel, sustainable transport and simply the joys of cycling a bike!
In partnership with the National Transport Authority, this year Green-Schools will celebrate Bike Week from Saturday May 13th until Sunday 21st. National COW Day (Cycle on Wednesdays/Weekdays) will be held on Wednesday May 17th.
Benefits of Cycling
There are multiple environmental and health benefits to cycling to school, but most importantly, cycling is one of the most efficient and rewarding ways to get to school. Cycling, as a mode of travel, is on the increase with more people choosing to cycle for shorter journeys.
National COW Day: Wednesday, May 17th
Cycle On Wednesday or COW Days are where everyone tries to cycle to school if they can.. We hope to take part in National Bike Week. We are asking you to make a special effort to cycle to school on Wednesday 17th May if possible. It would be wonderful to see our two bike shelters filled with bikes next week. As always thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
The Green Schools Team at St. Maryโs.

๐๐๐ Happy Earth Day ๐๐๐
What is Earth Day? ๐ค
Earth Day is an annual celebration that honours the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earth's natural resources for future generations. This year's theme asks us to 'Invest in our Planet'
What are we doing?๐ซ
Here in St Mary's we are extremely proud to have achieved 9 Green Flags and we are now working on our 10th. Through engaging with the themes of these flags, we have become responsible and conscious citizens of our Planet.
We recycle, we reduce waste, we reuse, we turn off lights, we save energy, we car pool, we cycle, we walk, we scoot, we plant trees, we grow food, we create habitats...... We care about our Planet! ๐๐ฆ๐โป๏ธ๐ฑ๐ท๐ณ๐ฒ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐
What can you do? ๐
>Use a reusable shopping bag.๐๏ธ
In its lifetime, one reusable bag can prevent the use of 600 plastic bags.
>Recycle waste. โป๏ธ
Recycling one can of coke will save enough energy to power a tv for three hours.
>Turn off electrical devices when not in use. ๐ด
Shutting down a computer when it's not in use cuts the energy consumption by 85 percent.
Will you invest in our Planet?
