This term Ms. Fordeโ€™s 5th have been learning about the Great Famine in Ireland. The girls put huge effort into their learning and researched different topics relating to the famine for collaborative projects. They also created some wonderful art work to represent all they have learned about that time in Ireland.
As the National Famine Commemoration ceremony is being held this weekend; today our class held a minutes silence to remember all those who died and emigrated during the famine in Ireland.

3rd class were very lucky recently to have a hugely important visit from Kieran and Lee from our local Fire Station. They spoke to the girls about fire safety in their homes and the importance of all households checking their smoke alarms each week on 'Testing Tuesday!' ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ

They displayed and demonstrated how the equipment works as well as describing their routine for getting in to uniform when the call comes in ๐Ÿ””. They gave the girls an idea of 'A day in the life of a firefighter" and had plenty of fire safety tips to share. All inquisitive questions were answered and some girls then shared that they would love to take on the role of firefighter when they grow up! ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ‘ญ On Tuesday we celebrated International Women's Day. ๐Ÿ‘ญ #breakthebias2022

Before talking about the topic, 6th class were asked to draw a number of occupations on a piece of paper. We then divided them into 2 groups, based on gender. A discussion followed on stereotypes and bias. It's great to see that they have broken the bias already! ๐Ÿ™Œ

After looking at a variety of national and international inspirational women, they then put their sketchnoting skills to work and created an A4 piece on a chosen woman. ๐Ÿ˜Š
